JJ's Restaurant

A little history...

The building which is now home to JJ's Restaurant was originally known as the Carmack Drug Store in the early 1900's. In 1934, Frank J. Gassman, and his wife, Wilma bought the business from G.W. Carmack. Frank J. and Wilma worked seven days a week at Gassman's Pharmacy filling prescriptions "at the curb". The drug store also offered a full soda fountain service. This is how Frank A. Gassman got his start in the family business at age nine.

Frank A. Gassman and his wife, Jean, assumed ownership of the store in 1958. Frank A. and Jean kept the store open seven days a week and opened late on weekends until the Lyric Theater's last showing, around midnight. In 1981, the store closed after 80 years of service.

The building was lovingly restored by Suzanne Sayre and family during the early 1990's and purchased by the current owners in September 2001.

In November 2001, JJ's opened it's doors serving delicious food and spirits to Plattsburg and the surrounding areas. Opened by sisters Jennifer Turley and Julie Collins, JJ's got it's name from Jen and husband Mac's then small boys, Joe and Jake. Besides offering great food and service, JJ's has kept the building's original charm. The soda fountain still stands in JJ's dining room. It is more than 80 years old and made of black marble. The mahogany apothecary cabinet lines the walls with sixty tin drawers complete with original porcelain pulls. This is where many of the pharmacy labels were kept.

In 2002, JJ's expanded into the catering industry. Offering catering services from boxed lunches, food drop off, full buffet service, to all inclusive sit down dinners, JJ's can accommodate any customer's needs.

In April 2005, The Antique Table, JJ's 2nd floor banquet facility opened to the public. The Antique Table has the capacity to seat small or large groups for business meetings, wedding receptions, or any private party.
